Propulsion and Power Systems Alliance

The Propulsion and Power Systems Alliance promotes programmatic and technical collaboration between government agencies in order to better utilize existing program resources in the areas of power and propulsion.

Mission

“Improve propulsion and power systems technology program coordination and collaboration among government agencies, e.g.,  Department of Defense, NASA, Department of Energy, and the Federal Aviation Administration – leading to a greater national alliance/reliance among the program participants and therefore stakeholders, resulting in more effective leveraging of existing federal investments in aerospace propulsion and power research and technology.” –Alliance Leadership Team

Potential Partners

PPSA encourages and is open to additional new concepts in partnering.

Overview

PPSA was formed in 1999 with the overall objective of promoting programmatic and technical collaboration between government agencies in order to better utilize existing program resources in the areas of power and propulsion. PPSA encourages further development of current and new areas of collaboration while enhancing opportunities for spin-off and higher technology readiness of government research.

The PPSA is a government alliance. Interaction and coordination with industry and academia will continue to prosper through the currently funded government programs. PPSA has technology area teams (TAT) that are focused to further develop current and new areas of collaboration regarding nine key technologies.

  • Combustion Systems
  • Compression Systems
  • Control and Health Management
  • Hybrid Electric Systems
  • Integrated Propulsion, Power, and Thermal Management Systems (IPPTMS) with Modeling and Simulation (M&S)
  • Integrated Test and Evaluation
  • Materials
  • Mechanical Systems
  • Turbines

To provide further understanding of the charter of each TATs emphasis and to offer relevancy and potential benefits to new partnering opportunities, please review the TAT vision statements.

The TATs are working to enhance opportunities for spin-off and higher technology readiness of government research.

  • More effective use of limited U.S. government programmatic resources in propulsion and power systems technology development.
  • Enable and encourage new agreements.
