How you can work with us…
Proposals are regularly sought for instrument development under PICASSO, MatISSE, and DALI. These solicitations are part of the Science Mission Directorate’s Research Opportunities and Earth and Space Science (ROSES) https://nspires.nasaprs.com/external/solicitations/summary.do?solId={7E892B3A-4F62-AEB4-6A08-9DCA1977F31A}&path=&method=init Links to other solicitations will be posted as they become available.
If you are currently funded by a PESTO-managed managed project and would like a mentor, or if you are an experienced flight hardware developer and would like to serve as a mentor, please contact Carolyn Mercer at cmercer@nasa.gov.
Technology infusion mentors provide mentorship to technology development PIs
-
- Mentors have experience with flight missions and have a background in systems engineering
- Mentors provide guidance, not programmatic direction. They:
- Attend technical/programmatic reviews and provide flight experience-based guidance / suggestions / recommendations to technologists working under programs managed by PESTO
- When possible, follow the same technology project throughout the development life cycle
- Mentorship is scaled based upon size, complexity, and phase of development life cycle
- Provide advice on infusion lessons learned
- Highlight potential infusion obstacles early in the development cycle and identify appropriate mitigation activities that may address the identified infusion barriers
- Assess remainder of the PI’s development plan
- Suggest opportunities to affordably add additional test points, analyses, etc., and identify any gaps in the continued maturation plan.
- Aid in the definition of mission applicability and concept of operations
- As appropriate, advocate technology within the mission community
- Attend technical/programmatic reviews and provide flight experience-based guidance / suggestions / recommendations to technologists working under programs managed by PESTO
Mentorship is voluntary on both sides
-
- The technology development PI has the right to refuse mentor participation.
