Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the SCaN Internship Project, a student must be either: enrolled in high school, a full-time college student, or have graduated within less than 6 months from the start date of the internship. High school students must be at least 16 years old, a permanent resident of Ohio, and live within a 50-mile radius of NASA Glenn Research Center.

At this point in time, SIP opportunities are only open to U.S. citizens. Students must have a minimum of a 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale to be considered.

FAQ

What are the eligibility requirements?

  1. U.S. Citizen
  2. Cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  3. Full-time students (high school through graduate)
  4. Enrollment in a degree granting institution or less than 6 months after graduating
  5. 16 years of age at the time of application (no exceptions)

When do these internships take place?

Summer: Starts early June, concludes August, 10 weeks with potential for internship extensions into the Fall and Spring

Fall Extension: Starts late August/early September, concludes mid-December, 16 weeks

Spring Extension: Starts mid-January, concludes early May, 16 weeks

Is previous work experience required?

Although previous experience is desired for most projects, it is not required.

Are SIP internships paid?

Undergraduate and graduate students receive a stipend amount for their work. High school student’s internships are not paid.

Does NASA provide housing?

Interns are responsible for making their own housing arrangements. This includes locating their own housing options and paying for their housing. After acceptance of an internship opportunity, SIP coordinator adds you into a private social media group strictly for SIP interns. Interns are able to communicate before arrival and plan housing/transportation if needed.

When are selections made?

Selections may occur at any time after you submit your application. You will be contacted through email if you are considered for a project.
